Tokio Marine Asset Management group History:

TMA is one of the largest managers of discretionary Japanese pension fund assets and offers multiple investment strategies across asset classes. With five offices worldwide in Tokyo, London, Singapore, New York and Shanghai, the TMA group employs over 200 people to assist our clients to reach their investment objectives.

 

1985

Established as Tokio Marine MC Asset Management Co. Ltd (present Tokio Marine Asset Management Co., Ltd.) launched by Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance, the oldest non-life insurance company in Japan with a history dating back to 1879

1987

Registered as an investment advisory firm and acquired license to provide discretionary investment management services

1990

Opened Tokio Marine Asset Management (London) Limited ("TMAL"), its asset management subsidiary in London

1991

Commenced management of pension fund assets

1992

Offered the Japanese GARP strategy providing investors with access to Japanese equities via the Growth at a Reasonable Price style

1997

Opened Tokio Marine Asset Management (International) Pte Ltd. ("TMAI"), its asset management subsidiary in Singapore

1998

Changed its name to Tokio Marine Asset Management Company Ltd. ("TMA")

1999

Japanese pension assets managed by TMA reached ¥1 trillion

2000

Opened Tokio Marine Asset Management (USA), its asset management subsidiary in New York

2001

Launched its first Long/Short Hedge Fund Strategy, whilst TMAI launched the Far East Equity Fund, offering Japanese investors exposure to the emerging Asian universe

2003

Formed Tokio Marine Rogge Asset Management Ltd., a joint venture with Rogge Global Partners Plc, to provide Japanese investors access to international fixed income strategies

2004-07

Continued launching a number of strategies including Asia ex-Japan long/short strategy and themed Japanese equity portfolios

2008

TMAL obtained FSA authorisation and TMAI opened a research office in Shanghai to provide research on Chinese companies for the Asian portfolios

2008

Acquired stake in Governance for Owners Japan KK

2011

TMAL granted Variation of Part IV Permission by the Financial Services Authority to Manage investments and Deal in investments as agent
